High School Tennis Takeover Hits the Courts at Barnes Tennis Center

Youth Tennis San Diego is thrilled to celebrate the successful launch of our first-ever,
High School Tennis Takeover at the Barnes Tennis Center!
Every Friday night this summer, the courts at Barnes are alive with energy, laughter, and teenagers! Summer Friday nights at Barnes are dedicated to our local high school players.
From 4–6 p.m., community coaches lead the courts with fast-paced, engaging tennis drills and games. At 6 p.m., players and coaches enjoy free pizza together, followed by optional open rally play from 6–8 p.m. to close out the night.
This brand-new program has quickly become a hit! We were thrilled to welcome over 50 high school players to our first Friday, on June 6th. Teens from across San Diego came together for this free community clinic, representing schools such as Canyon Crest Academy, Saints, Poway, Point Loma, Canyon Hills, Mission Bay, University City, Scripps Ranch, High Tech High, and Helix. Players of all skill levels joined in—staying active, making new friends, and enjoying the game we all love.
It was incredible to see such a diverse mix of students—from freshmen just picking up a racquet to varsity veterans—sharing the court, cheering each other on, and forming new friendships through the game of tennis. More than just a clinic, High School Tennis Takeover is about community. It’s about giving teens a safe, fun, and inclusive space to be active, build relationships, and grow their love for the sport. Nights like these remind us of the original mission behind the Barnes Tennis Center: to serve as a home base for youth tennis in San Diego—a place where kids of all backgrounds can gather, play, and thrive.
We are incredibly proud of our community programs, our dedicated coaches, and the student-athletes who keep our mission alive—not just by competing to win, but by playing for the joy of the game.

High School Tennis Takeover runs every Friday night through the end of July. While the program is free, space is limited—and spots are filling fast! Come for the tennis, stay for the pizza, and leave with great memories. We’ll see you on the courts!
