YTSD Timeline
1952
The San Diego Tennis Patrons where founded with the mission of serving the youth of San Diego.
1959
We provided travel grants and established a circuit for junior tournaments and development clinics.
1989
Our signature outreach program, the Kathy Chabot Willette After School Tennis, was started!
1992
Homer Peabody and Kathy Chabot Willette raise 4.2 million dollars to build the Barnes Tennis Center.
The "Pathway of Opportunity" was created, establishing a scholarship program for students involved in programs.
1995
With donated funding from Gary and Betty Biszantz, Barnes Tennis Center was completed.
1997
AST grew to 96 locations across San Diego and Billie Jean King held the first Junior National World team tennis at Barnes.
2002
YTSD celebrates it's 50th anniversary.
2005
YTSD adopts "Serving the Future" as the initiative to grow AST.
2012
The Booth Education Building was completed and opened.
2015
YTSD became an NJTL which has the goals to help young people develop character, academic excellence, and leadership skills.
2017
YTSD | Barnes Tennis Center was named USTA Organization of the Year.
2021
YTSD hosted the first-ever ATP event in San Diego at the Barnes Tennis Center. It was called the San Diego Open.
2022
We hosted both an ATP 250 and a WTA 500 event.
2023 & 2024
Hosted the San Diego Open as a WTA 500 event.
2024
Barnes Tennis Center built 19 dedicated pickleball courts.
2025
The San Diego Open was changed to a ATP Challenger 100 event.
