YTSD, South Bay Team Brings Home the Championship!
Youth Tennis San Diego is thrilled to share some amazing news! Our South Bay Junior Team Tennis squad, the Ball Breakers, has officially taken home the 12 & Under Championship title at the JTT Sectionals in Long Beach!
This victory is more than just a trophy—it's a symbol of dedication, teamwork, and opportunity.
Every player on the Ball Breakers team is part of our South Bay After School Tennis program, coached by one of our amazing community instructors, Santiago Jaquez. Through our community programs, the players have received weekly lessons in the South Bay area and scholarships to play JTT this season, all of which has been a wonderful opportunity for them to compete, grow, and thrive through tennis. We couldn’t be prouder of these young athletes. Their hard work, energy, and belief in themselves led to an unforgettable weekend of competition—and an incredible win at sectionals!
From the first match to the final point, the Ball Breakers set the tone. Word quickly spread around the courts, "The Barnes players are winning all their matches!" Players and parents from other teams kept checking the scoreboard in awe, some officials even confirmed it before the last match ended: "You guys already won the championship!"
These young champions didn’t just win. They represented Barnes Tennis Center and Youth Tennis San Diego with heart, pride, and joy. The team carried the YTSD name with honor, and as one proud parent, Cynthia Ayon, put it: "This victory was not only for the players. It was shared with incredible people like Lindsey Vosburgh, Coach Santiago Jaquez, Ryan Redondo, Kathy Willette and everyone at Barnes!"

Aly and Aby, like so many of our players, left the weekend dreaming bigger and aiming higher. And that’s what this program is about—opening doors, building confidence, and creating champions on and off the court.
