Celebrating AST’s Impactful 2025

Some say a picture can tell a thousand words—and as you look through our photos from this past year, we hope you’ll see the joy, growth, and community that defined After School Tennis (AST) in 2025.

Through our AST community programs, we reached thousands of youth, sharing the gift of tennis while creating positive opportunities and lasting connections. We hope you enjoy the photos highlighting what we believe was our most impactful year yet, marked by expansion into new schools, stronger partnerships, and countless meaningful moments both on and off the courts!

In 2025, YTSD expanded our community tennis programs, as well as our fitness and enrichment opportunities throughout San Diego County, creating access for youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to play the sport.

Urban Village continues to be the heart of our community outreach programs. All programs here are provided at no cost to all participants and serve 100+ youth on a weekly basis. Our program offerings include elementary, middle/high school, parent clinics, education programs, and free weekend tournaments. Fitness was integrated into every lesson this year, led by our certified instructor, and we launched our new program titled, Teen Fitness Warriors, a weekly program focused on fitness and nutrition education for teens.

In addition to weekly programs, YTSD hosted numerous free special community events throughout the year - onsite at the Barnes Tennis Center and offsite at the Urban Village Rec. Events included youth tournaments, field days, family tennis events, and seasonal festivals and celebrations. Our impact is made possible through support of our sponsors and strong partnerships with organizations such as Price Charities, USTA & SCTA, Molly’s Angels, Monarch School, City of San Diego Parks & Recreation, Hands On San Diego, and many, many more who support our mission.

Program Highlights

• Junior Team Tennis: Two South Bay teams competed year-round under the leadership of AST instructor Santiago Jaquez. The Ball Breakers 12U team capped off an incredible season by winning JTT Sectionals this spring!

• Youth Adaptive & Wheelchair Tennis: We expanded weekly programming at Barnes and introduced two weeks of free summer camps for adaptive youth. With year-round opportunities, adaptive athletes continued to build confidence, develop skills, and gain valuable tournament experience.

• Summer High School Tennis Takeover: This new, free Friday night summer program brought teens together each week for drills, pizza, and open play. The program was a huge success, creating a fun, welcoming space for high school players all summer long.

To say 2025 was successful is an understatement! We are incredibly proud of the positive impact our community programs make every day. Thank you to our participants, families, instructors, volunteers, partners, and supporters.
