Youth Tennis San Diego was honored to be part of the first-ever City Heights Sports Day on Saturday, May 17th at Hollywood Park, located in the City Heights neighborhood! Over 100 kids and coaches from a variety of local sports organizations came together for an exciting, fun-filled afternoon of sports, youth engagement, active living and community connection. Children of all ages registered in advance through the city's website to receive free lessons, try new sports, and make new friends. Sports offered included boxing, soccer, biking, lacrosse, rock climbing and of course, TENNIS!
At our Youth Tennis San Diego station, kids were introduced to the fundamentals of the game in a welcoming, playful environment. To help them continue their tennis journey, every child received a free tennis racket, courtesy of Youth Tennis San Diego — a gift that sparked excitement and smiles across the courts. In addition, all participants were invited to continue learning and playing this summer at the Urban Village Recreation Center, where Youth Tennis San Diego offers FREE tennis lessons for youth of all ages and skill levels. And yes — parents are encouraged to join the fun, too! Together, as a community, we celebrate the joy of movement, the power of sport, and the importance to DREAM BIG!

A highlight of the day was a special appearance by Jonny Mansour, professional boxer and proud San Diego native. Jonny captivated the crowd with his message to the youth:
“You are what you dream.”
He shared his own journey — from a local kid with big dreams to a professional athlete — emphasizing the importance of hard work, dedication, and surrounding yourself with the right people. His story deeply resonated with the kids, reminding them that their dreams are valid and achievable.

We are proud to have been included in such a special day — representing Youth Tennis San Diego and sharing our love for the great sport of TENNIS! Thank you to the City of San Diego for inviting us to be part of the first annual City Heights Sports Day. And thank you to our community instructors who joined us on court! It was an incredible opportunity to connect with the community, promote healthy activities, and inspire the next generation of young athletes!
