As the weather warms and the sun shines, Youth Tennis San Diego is excited for the spring session of our signature community outreach program, Kathy Chabot Willette – After School Tennis (AST). From San Ysidro to Barrio Logan, Tierrasanta to Clairemont, Point Loma, and La Jolla, our programs are in full swing - bringing the benefits of tennis to local youth each and every day.

Our community programs take place at local schools, recreation centers, and right here at the Barnes Tennis Center. By way of the After School Tennis program, we provide everything necessary to make tennis accessible for youth of all ages – from experienced instructors to equipment, insurance, and facility permits. Our programs are always provided at no cost to the facility/school participating, and free or low cost to the students.
For us, tennis is more than just learning to serve or hit a backhand – it’s about building self-confidence, fostering friendships, and encouraging teamwork. Our instructors aren’t just teaching a sport; they’re helping youth grow as individuals, learn the value of hard work, and develop lasting bonds through tennis.

During our most recent visit to Toler Elementary School, the joy of tennis was seen in the smiles of the kids and coaches alike! Coach Lynn Norton, (an AST instructor for over 20 years), was joined by Dustin Nguyen, (an AST instructor for 5 years and a previous AST player himself.)
Lynn and Dustin, along with our dedicated team of AST instructors, go above and beyond to support each child’s growth, not only as athletes but as individuals. They create an environment where young people can build confidence, develop self-esteem, and cultivate a lifelong love for tennis.
We are incredibly proud of our After School Tennis Program, and continue to be grateful for the opportunity to share the joy of tennis with hundreds of San Diego youth each year. We deeply appreciate the commitment of our instructors and the generosity of our community sponsors, whose support makes it all possible.
Together, we’re serving up more than tennis – we’re building stronger, healthier communities, one swing at a time!
